Brett Favre: Quarterback

Brett Favre has become one of the best quarterbacks in the National Football League and is paving his way to future consideration for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Brett played in the Pro Bowl following the 1992, 1993,1995-97 and 2001 seasons and was selected to play in the Pro Bowl following the 2002 season. Ronnie Lott was one of the best defensive backs in the National Football League and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000. A veteran of four Super Bowl championship teams, Ronnie shares the rookie season record for most touchdowns by interception and was selected as an All-Pro at free safety, strong safety and cornerback. He played in the Pro Bowls following the 1981 through 1984 seasons as well as the 1986 through 1991 seasons. In addition, Ronnie shares the NFL post-season record for most interceptions with nine.

Jerry Rice: Wide Receiver


Jerry Rice is widely regarded as the greatest wide receiver ever to play professional football and is surely headed for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He has been a member of three Super Bowl championship teams and a perennial Pro Bowl player (having been invited to the Pro Bowl thirteen times) and All-Pro. In recognition of his excellence, the Sporting News has twice named him the NFL Player of the Year.

How many NFL records can one player hold? In 1994, Jerry passed the legendary Jim Brown to set the all-time record for touchdowns and completed his future Hall of Fame career with 197 touchdown pass receptions to his credit! Jerry had fourteen seasons with 1,000 or more yards in pass receptions - the most in history. Jerry set a record of 13 straight games with one or more touchdown receptions with 22 and shares the single-game record for most touchdown receptions with five.

In addition to his numerous other post-season career and individual game records, Jerry holds the Super Bowl career records for most points (42), most touchdowns (7), most touchdown receptions (7), most receptions (28), most combined yards (527) and most yards receiving (512). Jerry also holds Super Bowl single-game records for most touchdown receptions (3) and most yards receiving (215) and shares records for most points (18), most touchdowns (3) and most receptions (11).

Reggie White: Defensive End


Reggie White, who passed away prematurely on December 26, 2004, is widely regarded as one of the best, if not the best, defensive ends ever to play professional football and truly earned the title of "the minister of defense" and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 2006. At the University of Tennessee, Reggie was selected for the Sporting News College All-American first team. Reggie was selected for and played in the National Football League Pro Bowl from the 1986 through 1993 seasons (and was selected as the outstanding player of the Pro Bowl for the 1986 season) and was selected for the Pro Bowl for the 1994 season. In addition, Reggie was selected as defensive end on The Sporting News NFL All-Pro team for 1987, 1988, 1991 and 1993.

As one of the most dominating defensive players in the history of the National Football League, at the conclusion of the 1994 season, Reggie held the record for most sacks in a career at 145. Reggie was a team leader throughout his football career and commands respect from players to inspire all of those around him to play up to their maximum potential.

Reggie's career is a handbook for discipline and hard work and he has applied what he has learned in his dedication on the athletic playing field to his endeavors off the field as well as he continues to reach out and provide assistance to many of those in need.

Eric Allen: Cornerback


Eric Allen was one of the best cornerbacks in football. A veteran of five Pro Bowls, Eric shares the single-season record for most touchdowns by interception with four and the single-game record for touchdowns by interception with two.

Eric brought a winning combination of skill and intelligence to the cornerback position. His ability to read an offense and react accordingly made him one of the most outstanding pass defenders in football. Over his twelve NFL seasons Eric grabbed a remarkable 34 interceptions and returned five for touchdowns.

Brent Jones: Tight End


Brent Jones was one of the premier tight ends in the National Football League and was one of the key weapons in the San Francisco 49ers arsenal. A veteran of the 49ers Super Bowl Championship teams for the 1988, 1989, and 1994 seasons, Brent was selected for and played in the National Football League Pro Bowl from the 1992 through the 1994 seasons.

As one of the most complete tight ends in the game with great blocking and pass-catching skills, Brent provided the 49ers with another touchdown pass receiving threat when the opposing teams were doubling up on Jerry Rice and John Taylor.

Brent persevered through a series of nagging injuries on sheer determination and commitment and continued to demonstrate why he was one of the key reasons for the 49ers constant success.

Jim Lachey: Offensive Tackle


Jim Lachey demonstrated why he was a National Football League first round draft choice upon graduation from Ohio State University in 1985 as he was a mainstay in the Washington Redskins offensive line from the time he joined the team in 1988. Jim was selected at the offensive guard position for The Sporting News College All-America team in 1984, played in the National Football League Pro Bowl for the 1987, 1990 and 1991 seasons and was selected as an offensive tackle on The Sporting News National Football League All-Pro team from 1989 through 1991.

Through dedication and hard work, Jim mastered the skills required to be a dominating force on the Washington Redskins offensive line and to provide the Redskins with the kind of consistent play necessary to launch a successful offensive attack.

Jim was a devoted student of the game and proved that hard work and dedication to the concept of team play paid off both on and off the football field.

Jack Del Rio: Linebacker

Jack Del Rio, hired as the Head Coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars of the National Football League in 2003 after completing his playing career as a linebacker with the Minnesota Vikings and working as the Defensive Coordinator for the Carolina Panthers and Linebackers Coach for the Baltimore Ravens, was the "heart and soul" of the Minnesota Vikings defense during his tenure with the Vikings. Jack demonstrated outstanding leadership and ability on a consistent basis throughout the course of his stellar career. Jack was a "standout" college linebacker at the University of Southern California and commenced his National Football League career upon being drafted by the New Orleans Saints in 1985. Jack was an All-Conference selection and was selected for and played in the National Football League Pro Bowl for the 1994 season.

As the consummate linebacker who was always aware of what is going on around him, Jack led all "inside-middle" linebackers in tackles (507) and all linebackers (including outside linebackers) in interceptions (9) over the last three seasons of his career.

Jack, who was an all-around athlete at the University of Southern California, having played both football and baseball (and whose favorite sport as a youngster was basketball), enjoyed the competition and was a warrior who was always there when times were tough and always "left it all on the field".

Rodney Hampton: Runningback


Rodney Hampton was "Mr. Consistency" after his selection in the first round of the 1990 National Football League Draft by the New York Giants after an outstanding college career as a runningback at the University of Georgia. Rodney was selected for and played in the NFL Pro Bowl for the 1992 and 1993 seasons. Rodney had been the "work horse" for the Giants by rushing for over
1,000 yards in each of his first five seasons and is the Giants all time leader in career rushing yardage (5,989), rushing attempts (1,547), and 1,000 yard seasons (5) in only six seasons.

Jeff Jaeger: Placekicker


Jeff Jaeger was one of the premier place-kickers in the National Football League. At the University of Washington, Jeff set the NCAA record for most field goals in a career. As a professional, Jeff was selected as an All-Pro in 1991 and participated in the Pro-Bowl in 1992. In 1993, Jeff was the NFL's leading scorer and tied the NFL record for most field goals in a season with 35.

Jeff worked hard to maintain his excellent physical condition and was a model of precision and control. He routinely practiced kicking footballs into narrow uprights to ensure his accuracy on game day giving him the ability to score field goals from over 50 yards away when called upon to do so.

Jeff Gossett: Punter


Jeff Gossett was one of the National Football League's leading punters. From his days as a college player at Eastern Illinois University to the National Football League, Jeff set the national standard in punting.

In 1991 Jeff was named as the punter on the Sporting News NFL All-Pro Team and in 1992 he participated in the NFL Pro Bowl. Jeff twice played in the AFC Championship Game, once with the Cleveland Browns (1986) and once with the Los Angeles Raiders (1990).

Jeff brought extraordinary power and quickness to his punts. He took the snap in split-seconds and punted the ball for tremendous distances. During his 15 stellar years in the National Football League, Jeff punted for almost 42,000 yards with an average distance of over 41 yards. Jeff's speed and strength allowed him to rack up these impressive numbers with punts having been blocked only three times over his entire professional career.

Don Shula: Coach


Don Shula is the National Football League's all-time leader in games won leading teams in Baltimore (7) and Miami (26) to 347 victories in 526 games over the course of 33 seasons (including 19 playoff teams and three League championships) and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 1997. Perhaps, the most significant of all of Don's accomplishments during those 33 seasons is that there were only two seasons in which victories did not exceed losses. As coach of the 1972 Miami Dolphins, Don led his team through the National Football League's only undefeated and untied season as the Dolphins won 17 games without losing any. Don Coached in a record six Super Bowls and 36 playoff games and his 328 regular-season victories and 347 all-time victories (for a career winning percentage of .665 and an average of 10 victories per season) are both records.

Don was a runningback at John Carroll University and chose to seek a career in professional football instead of coaching and teaching high school in Canton, Ohio when he was drafted by the Cleveland Browns and played seven seasons as a defensive back for the Browns, Colts and Redskins. After his professional football career, Don became an assistant coach at the University of Virginia and five years later became the National Football League's youngest coach when he was hired by the then Baltimore Colts at the age of 33. Don Shula ruled the field with an iron fist as the fire burned within him and he was as capable as any in getting the most out of his players. Don Shula led by example and was so dedicated to winning that he missed only one day of work over the course of his 33 years of coaching in the National Football League. Don commands respect from players and coaches alike as he has always been the type to inspire people around him to reach their maximum potential.
